Met Éireann has said there will be some rain initially this weekend which will be followed by more settled and milder conditions.

The national forecaster said that rain this morning (Friday, April 25) will slowly become confined to Leinster and Ulster.

There will be sunny spells and heavy showers in Connacht and Munster, with a risk of isolated thunderstorms and spot flooding.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 11° to 16°C, feeling warmest in Connacht and Munster in light to moderate southerly winds.

The rain and showers will clear later to leave a mainly dry night with clear spells and the odd shower.

The light southerly or variable winds will allow patches of mist and fog to form. Lowest temperatures of 3° to 8°.

Mist and fog will slowly clear on Saturday morning, but could persist along southern and eastern coasts for the day.

Away from these areas, it will be a bright and sunny day the odd light shower. It will become cloudier in the west and northwest in the afternoon bringing some patchy rain.

It will feel mild with highest afternoon temperatures of 13° to 17° in light to moderate southwest winds, fresher on western coasts.

Saturday night will be cloudy with some rain in the southwest, west and north. Overnight lows of 7° to 11° with moderate to fresh southerly winds.

The rain will clear on Sunday to leave sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 14° to 18° in fresh southwest breezes.

Mainly dry on Sunday night with clear spells and isolated showers, cloud is expected to build from the west later. Overnight lows of 9° to 12° in moderate southerly breezes.

Met Éireann said that Monday will bring hazy sunny spells, the odd light shower will be possible in some areas. The moderate southerly winds will ease in highest temperatures of 14° to 18°.

The current forecast shows that Tuesday will be a warm and sunny day. Highest temperatures of 16° to 20° degrees with light to moderate southeast winds.

Met Éireann noted there is still uncertainty about the forecast for the remainder of next week.

While high pressure seems likely to bring dry weather with mild or warm conditions, some rain is still possible.

Met Éireann

During the coming week, overall rainfall amounts are expected to be close to average or a little below, but will be higher than average in some southern and eastern areas.

Rainfall totals are likely to vary from between 4mm and 10mm in the southwest and south midlands to between around 13mm and 25mm generally.

As milder conditions are forecast for over the next seven days, mean air temperatures will increase to 12° or 13°, which is 4 or 5° above average.

Mean soil temperatures are currently 1 or 2° above normal in general, ranging from 8.6° in the northwest to 11.1° in the south and southwest. Soil temperatures are expected to increase during the coming week.

Met Éireann said that drying will improve from Monday, some good opportunities for spraying are expected on Saturday and from Monday.

Most well drained and moderately drained soils are currently close to saturation, while some moderately drained soils in the western half of the country and most poorly drained soils are waterlogged.

However, soils are a little drier in parts of west Connacht and northwest Munster.

All soils are due to become drier by the end of the coming week, with soil moisture deficits rising to between 5 and 17mm for moderately drained and well drained soils.
